Paragraph.
8th. March. 2010- "I Teach Happy Kids!"
There is no doubt this month will go just as quickly as the last.  With the middle school musical, basketball season wrapping up, and parent teacher conferences, you may be asking what has happened to our winter?
The 26th of March marks my cutoff day for Quarter 3 and I hope to send off each student with a "No project Spring Break."  Of course this will be determined by each student's output of work in the next 3 weeks.

The topics covered this month are Ernest Shackleton's Amazing Survival Story.  Most of the nonfiction reading of Shipwrecked at the Bottom of the World will take place in class. Project letters have already been sent home for the Map and Depot board each student will be creating.

..."lets pretend we're in Antarctica..."

Picture
This is a funky song by a band called Of Montreal.  They happen to reside in Georgia, USA.   As we find ourselves reliving Shackleton's expedition to the South Pole, this adds a modern twist to our topic.

Onward to Social Studies, we have traversed over the jagged edges of government systems  and on our way to modern China.  During the next 6 weeks we will be formulating questions that will be answered individually in a research paper.  Topics will be introduced and shared in class, yet it will be up to each individual to select an interest point and to cast that net through conversations with parents, books, and guided research.
As spring approaches and milestone birthdays take place, I find myself stepping into the world of a 13 year-old all over again.  After 5 years of living and reliving this stage, I find comfort in the following excerpt from a book I read before the world of hormones, quirkiness, and ever changing identities has become my normal life.  So for those moments you are feeling detached and confused by the sudden changes that are happening right in front of your very eyes, take a few minutes to read on.
